The granddaughter of a teacher thought to be buried with the poet wants to give her grandfather a decent burial.

National Court judge, Baltasar Garzón, will have to decide whether to open up the common grave thought to hold the remains of Granada writer, Federico García Lorca, who was shot to death during the Spanish Civil War.

A granddaughter of another one of the people thought to be buried in the grave, Nieves Galindo, has asked for the grave at Vízcar in Granada to be opened so that DNA evidence can be used to confirm the identify of her grandfather, a teacher Dióscoro Galindo, who was also killed on August 18 1936, but the Lorca family have always fiercely refused for the grave to be disturbed. They consider that it would damage the memory of the poet.

The Association for the Recovery of Historical Memory has said that Nieves has been trying to get the grave opened for some time, but the Lorca family has always refused an exhumation. She is now going to ask Judge Garzón to investigate the forced disappearance of her grandfather, so that she can give him a dignified burial.
