The August holiday is over as 4.4 million journies are taken this weekend on Spanish roads.

The end of August traffic weekend is underway with special measures being put in place by the D.G.T. traffic authority from 3 pm Friday afternoon.

There is concern that long delays may occur this year as the end of the month coincides with the weekend, and a total of 4.4 million journeys are expected to be taken between the afternoon and midnight on Sunday night. Last year over the time 30 people lost their lives.

The DGT is recommending travellers to avoid being on the road between 5pm and 11pm on Sunday when long delays into the large

cities are expected.
Latest traffic information and alternative routes put in place can be found (in Spanish) at www.dgt.es

It all comes as Spain faces up to the annual post-holiday syndrome with experts advising us to meet with friends or play sport on working days, and to establish new reachable objectives in the workplace as a way of adapting better to the return to the job. They also advise a good diet with plenty of fruit and seven or eight hours sleep to avoid depression.
