Real Madrid and Barcelona both fail to wing their first games of the season.
Real Madrid has lost in the Riazor stadium again at the start of the league going down 2-1 against Deportivo A Coruña. It’s now an amazing 18 seasons when the Madrid side has failed to win at the club. Both the Deportivo goals came from set pieces and were scored by Mista and Lopo. The Real goal came in the second half from Van Nistelrooy.
Meanwhile the President of Real Madrid, Ramón Calderón, has said that he is not going to sign any new player for this season, and also that no player would be leaving. The comment made because of Robinho who continues to insist he wants to play for Chelsea and who has now said he does not mind having to take a season without playing to realise his dream.
There was disappointment too for Barcelona at Numancia with the home side in Soria scoring a single goal. New trainer for Barça, Pep Guardiola, said it was grand disappointment as his side had more occasions but Numancia had more luck.
In tennis both Nicolás Almagro and Fernando Verdasco are out of the United States Open, leaving Rafa Nadal alone looking for aplce in the quarter finals.
In cycling, Alejandro Valverde is the early leader of the Vuelta de España after the first stage of 176.3km between Granada and Jaén yesterday. The rider from Murcia was two seconds ahead of two Italian riders, Davide Rebellin and Alessandro Ballan.
IN Moto GP the Spanish Repsol/Honda rider, Dani Pedrosa, is to leave Michelin and join Bridgestone tyres at the next race. The two men leading the championship, Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner are already both on Bridgestone.
And a win for Alvaro Bautista in the 250cc. He came in first in San Marino and is now 27 points from the leader.
