1000 people were evacuated from their homes for a time by the fire which is now stable.
The President of the Junta de Andalucia, Manuel Chaves, has said that the fire which broke out on Wednesday between Tarifa and Algeciras could have been started deliberately, and if that was the case, those guilty would be tracked down and ‘pay the consequences of their guilt and irresponsibility’.
Chaves visited the fire-fighters yesterday and said that the blaze is now stable, although still not officially under control. Some 480 hectares have been affected in total. Chaves praised the efficiency of the fire fighters and the Infoca service.
Some 1000 local residents were evacuated from their homes for a time and have now all been allowed back.
