The leader of the Partido Popular opposition, Mariano Rajoy, has issued a harsh attack on the Socialist government in Spain.
Rajoy claimed that Spain was returning to times past, with many foreigners here claiming unemployment pay, while Spaniards were having to go abroad to find work.
‘There are 180,000 foreigners collecting unemployment benefit, while 20,000 people from Andalucía have travelled to France to work in the grape harvest’, he said.
Rajoy said the Zapatero cabinet was ‘without policy and divided’, and that comments from the Prime Minister only served to contribute to the lack of confidence. He claimed that the government had no proposals to face the economic crisis, nor problems in education, or water or immigration policy.
