Valencia remain top of the table with the main players winning, but Real Madrid only managing a draw.
Disaster for Atlético Madrid on Saturday when their visit to Barcelona ended 6-1. It was even 5-1 at half time.
The Madrid players appeared weak, and were destroyed by Barcelona who scored three goals in the first eight minutes of the match. It was almost that every Barcelona attack ended in a goal.
Two goals from Raúl were not enough for Real Madrid to come away with a win against Espanyol at the Bernabéu last night. It was a slow and weak Madrid which went behind a well-organised Espanyol which dominated the play with their player De la Peña organising and goals from Nené and Luis García.
Valencia remain top of the league after beating Valladolid in Zorrilla. A single spectacular goal from the Portuguese player Manuel Fernandes was enough to separate the teams.
It was the sixth loss in a row for Athletic when they travelled to Sevilla and found themselves at the end of an on form side. It ended 4-0 for Sevilla with goals from Kanoté, Adriano, Renato and Chevantón.
And it was good news for Málaga who after a dreadful start to the season have found their form and thrashed Huelva 0-4 simply by clearly being the better side. It was Málaga’s first away win of the season.
