An American law firm is acting for 14 of the families affected by the crash which saw the loss of 154 lives on August 20.

The legal action started by the Ribbeck Law company in the United States on behalf of 14 of the families who lost loved ones in the Madrid Barajas plane crash on August 20, got underway in Cook, Illinois on Monday.

The preliminary hearing is when evidence is requested under ‘a petition for discovery’, and so far Ribbeck Law have asked for technical information on the MD-82 plane which was involved in the crash. They are taking legal action against McDonnel Douglas and Boeing, with the belief that there were technical faults in the plane.

Founder of the lawyers’ office, Manuel von Ribbeck, said the case was important given that three planes of the same MD-80 series had crashed in the past 12 months killing hundreds of people in Phuket in Thailand, Isparta in Turkey, and now Madrid in Spain. He claimed that Boeing would be responsible if the flap alarm did not work as the investigating commissions first report indicated.
