Málaga Metro will not be in service until 2012larger |
smallerBy h.b. - Oct 7, 2008 - 7:00 AMThe last and most complicated section is now being put out to tender by the Junta de Andalucía.
Work on the final and most complicated part of the new Málaga Metro will not start before 2010. The Junta de Andalucía is now putting the contract to build the section which goes underneath the Alameda and the Paseo del Parque out to tender.
It means a delay for the project which initially had an opening date of February 2009, as once work starts on the section in 2010, another two years will be needed for the line to come into service. The 1.6km section in the very centre of the city will include two stations between the Guadalmedina River and La Malagueta.
The section is technically very complicated with deep rooted trees, the nearby port and unstable land which is already supporting high volumes of vehicle traffic on its surface.
