The day will be celebrated in Benalmádena as it will around the world on October 11.

Another year on and the ONG Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice, is proud to celebrate the World Palliative Care Day to promote awareness and support for the special humanitarian side of medicine, which is known as Palliative/Hospice care. Medical personnel are trained to investigate and find a cure for their patients, whereas in the area of palliative medicine the emphasis is on care for the patient during the final stages of their advanced non-curable illness with support to their family, which continues after the loss of their loved one.

During the years we have cared for almost 6,000 patients and constructed the Hospice Centre in Benalmádena. This incorporates the Home Care Team offices, an In-patient Unit, Day Care Centre with Rehabilitation facilities, as well as Out-patient and Consultant services.

Our care is given without cost to those needing our help who live within the Province of Málaga. The average annual number of patients that are in our care programme is 600 covering a very wide area from east to west and inland of Málaga city.

2008 has seen a tremendous crusade by the community; many fundraising and sporting events have taken place and the support from families has been overwhelming. However, you our friends, our future patients and our medical teams working in the hospice centre, need to have the assurance that our Cudeca Hospice is here to stay with all areas of our palliative programme continuing.

Our development has only been possible with thanks to the understanding community. We send our sincere gratitude to all. Everyone in Cudeca, patients, doctors, nurses, support staff and volunteers, send their heartfelt appreciation for your past help and warmest wishes that your valuable support will remain constant to enable us to continue to offer our “special kind of caring”.

We cannot add days to life, but with your help we can add quality of life to days!
