By h.b. - Oct 8, 2008 - 9:40 AM
Today's Público front page.

Once again the financial world dominates the Spanish front pages.
El Mundo has the headline that Zapatero launches a preventative plan to rescue the bank with public money.
The paper notes that the personal savings guarantee in Spain has been increased from 20,000 to 100,000 €, and that the government will spend between 30 and 50 billion € to buy debts with a mortgage guarantee. The paper has a picture of the Prime Minister.
Rajoy has declared his support – provided the fund helps small businesses and families.
El Mundo also notes that Gordon Brown has come out to help the British banks after their share value collapsed on the stock market yesterday.
El Mundo notes that Wall St continued to fall, down another 5% yesterday.
El País leads with the headline that a 50 billion € fund is being created to support the banks in Spain. The idea is to increase liquidity in the financial system. ABC leads with the story, but says that the fund will be 30 billion. It notes that the Bank of Spain made a call for calm just before the fund was announced and said that there was no risk to savers.
Whatever the amount, Público says that the Government has created a ‘superfund’ to help the banks. They agree with the 30 billion figure.
El País notes that the personal savings guarantee here has been increased to 100,000 €.
El País notes that 300,000 Pakistanis are fleeing from the war in the country. The fight between the army and the Taliban on the Afghan frontier has forced the exodus.
El Mundo notes that a judge has ordered, for the first time in United States territory, that 17 prisoners be released from Guantanamo Bay.
ABC has a front page photo of some of the thousands of immigrants whom the paper says are waiting in Mauritania to catch a boat to Spain.
El Mundo reports that 14 of the 20 Islamists charged with planning to blow up the National Court have been found not guilty by the Supreme Court, and notes the Nova case was instructed by Judge Baltasar Garzón.
El País notes the Supreme Court ruling but says it was 15 people who have now been found not guilty.
ABC claims that the Ertzaintza police have not been sharing data about terrorist devices with the other security services in Spain. The paper notes that the French police and the Civil Guard will today patrol the border together.
El Mundo tells us that professionals have called
strike action in the judiciary in Sevilla in protest at the two year without pay punishment for the secretary in the Mari Luz case.
