Santander building suffers fire after gas explosion

The fire broke out some nine hours after the gas explosion. There are no reports of any injuries.

A building in Santander burst into flames some nine hours after earlier suffering a gas explosion yesterday. The fire started at 11,30pm last night and it took some 50 firemen three hours to bring under control. Several families from adjoining buildings had to be evacuated from their homes.

Earlier, at noon the gas explosion at a home on the fourth floor of the block in Calle Tetuán in the city saw five people taken to hospital for slight injuries.

Classes have been suspended today at the nearby Castroverde College as a result of the fire.
