Seve Ballesteros has a brian tumour

The retired golfer was admitted to hospital a week ago after fainting.

Severiano Ballesteros, who was admitted to the La Paz hospital in Madrid last Monday after fainting at Barajas airport, has a brain tumour. The 51 year old retired golfer from Pedreña confirmed that he is seriously ill yesterday after first telling his three children personally.

He said it was the doctors who would decide what to do next but that he would face it as the largest challenge of his life so far. A statement from the golfer thanked all the people who had been showing their support over the past week.

He described what he faces as the most important round of his life.
