The three placed photos of their cruelty on the Internet in October last year.

The three youngsters from Talavera de la Reina, in Toledo, who were accused of torturing and then killing a group of cats in October last year have admitted their guilt in court. Much was made at the time the case came to light that the three were members of the local youth Partido Popular, but they were expelled from the party when the story broke.

Jaime Ferrero, Carlos Vázquez and David Durán could do little else, having placed images of the cruelty on the Internet. They were in Instruction Court 3 in Talavera de la Reina yesterday on charges of ill-treatment of domestic animals in a case brought by the El Refugio animal protection society.

President of El Refugio, Nacho Paunero, was in court and told the press that the three had admitted their active participation in the incident, with two of them admitting that they shot at the cats.

Under the current penal code in Spain such charges face three years to a year in prison.
