The Penal Court in Granada has ordered a year’s prison for the owner of three pitbull dogs which bit a 78 year old man to death in Pinos Puente in January 2007. The owner of the dogs, named as Juan M.P. is also ordered to pay 99,000 € compensation to the family of the dead man after being found guilty of serious negligence resulting in death.
The dogs had partially eaten the body of the victim. The court considered it proved that the victim was attacked by the dogs when collecting olives on his finca in Pinos Puente, after the dogs had escaped from the neighbouring property. The dogs were also found not to be correctly vaccinated and without a licence, and the judge noted the poor relations between the victim and the dogs owner, caused also by the presence of the pitbulls.
