The Spanish administration is insisting that they will be present at the econmic summit in some form or other.

Spanish Prime Minster, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, has returned from the Asian-European summit in China, still without an invitation for the economic summit being organised by George W. Bush in Washington next month.

The Deputy Prime Minister, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, had said the PM would be going to the summit, but now official sources say that his presence there has not been confirmed, but they are continuing to work towards it. Zapatero has denied that he has been excluded from the summit because of his poor relations with President Bush.

Leader of the Partido Popular opposition, Mariano Rajoy, is also backing Zapatero’s presence at the summit, saying that everything possible has to be done to see him in Washington.
