Blind since the age of 34, Carmen is convinced that her sight will return one day, and so she still exercises every day.
An 86 year old blind trapeze artiste, who has overcome a brain tumour, is still training every day in the hope that she will regain her sight. Carmen Sánchez carries out gymnastic exercises at her home in Sitges, Barcelona, and says the only thing she fears is getting old.
She has spent half her life on the road with the circus, with her late husband, the Málaga clown Pepe Ruiz.
Her blindness came at the age of 34 as the result of a medical error, but since then she still exercises every day in case her eyesight returns. She goes dancing every week with her current partner Joaquim, and admits now that she never goes to the doctor.
She also blames television for the decline in the circus, and says that people don’t clap like they did in the past as they have seen it all on TV.
