A cold front is bringing high winds, rain and snow in a band moving from the NW to the SE of the country.
The current rain and snow which is hitting Spain is forecast to continue until Friday, with an improvement expected over the weekend in most areas inland, although the rain will continue along the Mediterranean coasts.
In Valencia temperatures have fallen by as much as 13 degrees compared to the highs seen just a few days ago with Castellfort reaching a maximum yesterday of just 9ºC.
In Alcalalí in Alicante, 16 litres of rain per square metre fell as the cold front approached.
This morning the areas of Asturias, Cantabria, Basque Country, Navarra and Huesca are all on orange alert for snow falls of up to 25 centimetres in some areas.
The Spanish Meteorological Office has issued alerts for strong winds and rain in 38 Spanish provinces in total.
