Málaga reservoirs benefit from recent rainfall

By h.b. - Nov 4, 2008 - 7:08 AM
Average capacity is up to 24.6 percent, more than it was a year ago at this time.
The amount of water being held in the reservoirs of Málaga province has increased by 28.6 cubic hectometres over the past week, to take them to an average 24.6% of their capacity, now more than what it was at this time last year, 23.3%.
The wettest Autumn for several years has helped the situation considerably with the recent rains in Málaga amounting to double the yearly drinking water needs of the Axarquía region.
General Director of the Cuenca Mediterránea Andaluza water board, Antonio Rodríguez Leal, said that the recent rains came as a great relief to the reservoirs and the people of Málaga.
He said if the rain continues the sluice gates of the La Concepción reservoir would have to be opened as it was now 84% full.
