Wintery conditions remain in the north of the country, while in the south rain has eased drought conditions.

Half of Spain faces another two days of cold and rain as wintery conditions continue in particular in the Pyranees, and in the NE of Castilla and León. The provinces of León, Zamora, Navarra and Huesca are on a yellow alert for rain and snow.

The Baleares and eastern Cataluña are also still on a yellow alert for heavy rain and high winds. The town of Salou is meanwhile recovering from the storm which caused severe damage on Sunday when a tornado brought winds of 160km/hour.

The heavy rain in the north African enclave of Ceuta has resulted in pollution on the southern coast of the Strait of Gibraltar. It came after a pipeline at the local Cepsa oil factory broke, and sea barriers have been placed to stop the pollution reaching the sea.

The Spanish Meteorological Office say that things will improve across the country as the week continues, although it will remain cold with the snow line around the 1800m level.

Cloudy skies and showers, locally moderate at times, forecast for the Costa del Sol today. The rain will be more probable along the coast in the morning when storms are also possible.
Cloudy intervals elsewhere along the Mediterranean coast.
