A court in Málaga has ruled the 2008 budget as not valid as the opposition councillors were not given time to see it.

The Estepona Town Hall is now without a Budget for this year because Administrative Court Six in Málaga has established that the ex Mayor, Antonio Barrientos, now being held on remand in the Astapa corruption case based in the Town Hall, failed to give information at the time to opposition councillors, thus going against their constitutional rights.

The ruling complicates further the position in Estepona where the Town Hall has a reported debt of 97 million €, and where the new Mayor, David Valadez, will now have to approve new budgets before the end of the year.

If the Town Hall does not re-validate the 2008 budgets in time, then the 2007 budgets will have to be used in 2009, despite the change in economic circumstances. Town Hall lawyers say they are to appeal against the decision of the Málaga court.
