Students clashing with police in Barcelona - Photo EFE
The students were demonstrating about the European Bologna Study Plan.
There was a running battle on the streets of Barcelona between students and police on Thursday after security forces moved in to break up the demonstration which had been called over the new European student study plan known as the Bologna Process.
The two sides met in Las Ramblas where the Anti Riot squad of the regional police, Los Mossos d’Esquadra had set up a cordon.
Some students and journalists were slightly injured by truncheon blows.
The march then re-gathered and the students headed for the University offices where they tried to occupy the Rector’s office without success. Similar marches took place in other European cities.
