Winter weather until Wednesday in Spain

High winds and snow are still affecting much of the Iberian Peninsular.

The wintery conditions of strong winds and snow will stay in some areas of Spain until Wednesday.

The North of Cantabria, the two Castillas and Andalucía remain on official alert.
In Asturias ten mountain passes remain closed with three other roads.
In Galicia there are four mountain passes in Lugo where tyre chains are needed, and in Teruel roads are closed and others need chains.

In Andalucía six roads remain closed by the snow with Jaén, Almería and Granada the provinces most affected.
Chains are needed at La Mora in Granada on the A-92 motorway.

Today more snow is forecast above 400/600m in the north and 500/800m in the south. Stong winds are forecast for the Cantabrian coast and also on the Balearics.
Showers, moderate in places are forecast for Galicia, Cantabria the North of Navarra, Ceuta and Melilla.
Occasional showers possible elsewhere across the peninsular.
Nine people lost their lives on Spanish roads over the weekend.
