Forecasters say that conditions will improve tomorrow, Wednesday, but that things will worsen again at the weekend.

Four regions of Spain remain on alert today from the Spanish Meteorological Agency, AEMET, as snow continues to affect the country, bringing traffic chaos to many.

Yellow alerts have been issued in the provinces of Lugo, Orense, Pontevedra, Navarra, Zaragoza, Huesca, Jaén, Cádiz where snowfalls of some 4cms are forecast, except in Huesca where it will be double that.

Tyre chains are needed on some 30 mountain passes across the country, and a further 12 remain completely closed.

The village of A Panda near Lugo in Galicia remains cut off by the snow and in the area some 4,612 children have been kept home as 31 schools were closed.

Conditions are set to improve across the country tomorrow, but the wintery conditions are forecast to return with a vengeance at the weekend with Saturday seeing heavy rain in many areas, and Sunday seeing temperatures falling again.
