Nearly all the Spanish papers choose photos of Barack Obama with Hillary Clinton.

El Mundo leads with the headline that the Spanish Ambassador in Moscow has shown the government how to stop Russian oil company Lukoil from taking shares in Repsol. The paper says that he sent details of a Russian law to the Foreign and Defence Ministries which gives the Kremlin the right to veto any investment of more than 10% in the energy sector. The report was sent on the 21st of this month and can be considered to break the idea of reciprocity.
El Mundo says the PP has registered a petition in Congress that the ‘political inter-mediation of the government in favour of the construction company Sacyr’ be investigated.
El País notes that Sacyr has eased its debt with the sale of its motorway toll company Itínere, but despite that it still wants to sell its Repsol shares.

El País notes too that the banks have taken control of the real estate company Metrovacesa, so the Sanahuja family have lost control of what was a family business. Six banks have paid 4 billion € for 54% of the capital – nine percent each for Santander, BBVA, Banesto, Popular, La Caixa and Caja Madrid.

ABC leads with the headline that the crisis has sunk car sales, down 50% and back to the levels of 1993. The paper says that only 63,068 vehicles were registered last month, and that manufacturers are calling the situation desperate.

El Mundo has a photo of President elect Barack Obama with Hillary Clinton yesterday after he confirmed her appointment as Secretary of State. The caption of the photo is ‘I believe in strong personalities’.
El País also has a photo of the two United States politicians but a different Obama quote –‘ We need a future with more partners and fewer enemies’.
ABC also with a large photo of the two and yet another Obama quote about his new team – ‘They share my vision for a new dawn in the world leadership of the United States’.
Público also has a large photo of Obama and Clinton, and has the take - Obama changes, but not much. The paper says he has established a conservative team.

El País considers that India and Pakistan are on the abyss of a new conflict. The paper says that the Mumbai terrorists were trained in Pakistan.

El Mundo is among the papers to continue to look at the tragic domestic violence killing by the prisoner out on a pass. The paper says the killers ankle device did work, but the civil servants did not hear it.
El País concludes that human error led to the Pontevedra killer being out of control.

ABC reports that the gun taken at the time that ETA terrorist Txeroki was arrested, was not the one used to kill two Spanish Guardia Civil in Capbreton, according to ballistics.

El País reports that the government has stopped two large research and development projects as they suffer a lack of organisation to manage them. Consolider and Cenit are the projects concerned which were financed this year with 424 million €.

El Mundo says that an investigation is underway as to the source of two million € which the father of Catalan CiU politician, Artur Mas, sent to be invested in Lichtenstein, without informing the Spanish tax man.
ABC notes that singer Alejandro Sanz is also implicated in what it calls ‘opaque accounts’ in Lichtenstein.

El Mundo continues its attacks on the Catalan language with the news that the regional government in Cataluña is now translating the surnames of the civil servants who are accepted for employment in the region.

Público is the only paper to front page the news that a dozen of Partido Popular councillors from the Balearics are to appear on the accused bench in another corruption case.

And finally,
There seems to be confusion over the allegations that monies were paid to Tenerife to lose the last match of last season against Málaga. El Mundo says that the President of Real Sociedad has accused the defender Juanma of organising the deal.
