60 year old woman dies as a result of the Barcelona gas explosion

The death of a 60 year old woman has now been confirmed by the Vall’d’Hebron Hospital. Marina Geli was admitted yesterday with burns to 85% of her body.
17 of the 28 people who were injured in the gas explosion at Gavà, Barcelona in the early hours of yesterday, remain in a serious condition this morning and the Catalunya Informació newspaper was first to report that one person has died.
The death of a 60 year old woman has now been confirmed by the Vall’d’Hebron Hospital. Marina Geli was admitted yesterday with burns to 85% of her body.
Seven children remain critical, and one more is in a serious condition, with all the injured suffering from burns, some to more than 50% of their bodies.
Five of those slightly hurt in the blast have been allowed home from hospital after treatment. A total of 42 people were attended to by the emergency services.
The regional police, Los Mossos d’Esquadra, have confirmed that the explosion was caused by natural gas.
The President of the regional Generalitat government, José Montilla, has interrupted a trip to Brussels to visit the injured and their families in hospital.
