The 'Ropax 1' has been fined 400,000 Euro after colliding with a Repsol buoy.
The authorities at Algeciras Port, dependent on the Ministry for Development, has fined a British registered ship, Ropax 1, the sum of 400,000 €. It comes after the vessel collided with Repsol buoy installations in Algeciras Bay on Saturday, causing a fuel escape which polluted beaches of La Linea and Gibraltar.
There is some doubt however as to the source of the pollution.
It happened at 2120 on Saturday night when there was a strong westerly wind in the area and the British ship broke anchor. It was after midnight before, with the help of two tugs, did she make her way to a berth in Algeciras port.
