Conditions will worsen from Christmas Eve in the East of the country.
The Spanish Meteorological Agency AHMET has confirmed that autumn this year has been the coldest in Spain for the past 12 years.
The long range forecast is however for a milder than usual winter, except for the Canaries where it will be colder than normal.
The average temperature on the mainland and Baleares during the autumn was 14.8º, making it the 9th coldest since 1965, and the coldest since 1996.
For Christmas the forecasters say that an anticyclone over the Atlantic will keep the rain away for most of Spain from now until Christmas Day. Christmas Eve will see cold air enter from the NE of the country again and bring poorer weather to the eastern half of the peninsula.
Looking very long term to March, temperatures are generally forecast to be very slightly higher than normal.
