The underwear must be red in La Font de la Figuera.

A village in inland Valencia has a strange New Year’ Eve tradition – running through the streets wearing just red underwear.

Both adults and children take part in the fiesta which has been taking place for the past 30 years or so in La Font de la Figuera. It all started when two adolescents came up with the idea, wanting to celebrate the New Year after seeing in the New Year with their respective families. Now the run is a regular event in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in the town and is open to all.

If you are thinking of joining the party, be warned - last year the temperature was around zero.
