High speed rail link opens between Málaga and Barcelona

A new stretch of track round Madrid means trains no longer have to enter the Spanish capital.

RENFE Spanish railways has put direct AVE high speed tickets from Málaga to Barcelona on sale on its website. The service starts on January 10 and thanks to a new rail link round Madrid journey time is now reduced to five hours 40 minutes as trains no longer enter Madrid.

There is one train in each direction daily between Málaga and Sevilla direct to Barcelona. The Málaga train leaves at 4,50pm and arrives in Barcelona at 10,33pm. The return time is 1030am from Barcelona which arrives in Málaga at 4,30pm.

Tourist class return ticket full price is 213€ 60 cents.
