The events in Gaza continue to dominate the Spanish front pages today.

El Mundo has a dramatic photo of a Palestinian man grieving over the body of three young children, one of whom was his son, killed by a Israeli tank attack in Gaza.
The children look more like dolls lying on the ground.
El Mundo headlines that Israeli commandos gathered the men together in a refugee camp, tied up their hands, blindfolded them and then stripped off their clothes. The paper says elite troops were searching the camp in Yabalia for Hamas militia among the Palestinian men aged between 12 and 45. The dramatic report came from their envoy there, Alberto Arce.
El Mundo reports that Zapatero has criticized Israel for the ‘lack of proportion’ in the attacks. The Israeli embassy in Spain has rejected the accusation and the Partido Popular has accused Zapatero of going further than the European Union in his criticisms.
El País has a photo of the night sky above Gaza illuminated by the fighting. The paper headlines that Israel and Hamas are fighting door to door in the city of Gaza. It says the Palestinians are waiting for the soldiers to enter the labyrinth of the most populated areas before making their attack.
ABC considers that it is President Sarkozy who is taking on the role of being the voice of Europe on the tragedy.
Público headlines that Gaza calls for help, and says that residents of Gaza are complaining about the lack of foreign support while the massacre of civilians continues.
It shows two photos of the contrasting health care for the injured on both sides.
The paper notes that Bush is insisting that Hamas is to blame.

El País reports that the gas war between Kiev and Moscow is now affecting supplies to Germany. The paper considers the problem will have serious repercussions for the supply in Europe.

El País headlines that the economic crisis has caused an avalanche of applications for the army. The news comes today when the Pascua Militar parade is witnessed by the King in the centre of Madrid. Last year saw 78,575 applications to join the army, exactly double that in 2007.

El Mundo reveals a split in the Partido Popular and says that the Basque wing of the party has asked for Jaime Mayor Oreja not to head the PP candidate list in the European Elections. Ojeja has history in the Basque region, being the hard line interior minister under the previous Aznar administration.

Continuing with the PP splits the row over Caja Madrid continues, and El Mundo says that the bank’s Chairman, Sr. Blesa agrees with the Mayor of the city and considers he can stay in the post until 2015. He is prepared to challenge Esperanza Aguirre’s law change in the courts.

El Mundo says that Zapatero has promised four regional presidents to create another fund to widen the financing of the regions, based on population growth.
ABC leads with this and headlines ‘Zapatero fires the deficit even higher with the creation of a population fund’. It says the Prime Minister has promised to compensate the less populated regions.

El País highlights the story of Marcia, a 27 year old Brazilian woman who has been trapped at Barajas Airport in Madrid for four nights, albeit in a hotel, because of the chaos at the airport. She hoped to take a flight at 0850 to Berlin this morning, the same plane she should have taken last Friday.

Other people who are waiting are those with the flu in Barcelona. La Vanguardia reports that some are waiting seven hours in the Emergency departments.

El Mundo reports on the case of the Swiss College in Madrid has been ordered to pay 30,000 € for failing to stop the bullying of one of the pupils.
El Mundo continues with its campaign to defend Castellano and says that as many as 87% of people are demanding the right to study in the language. The number comes from its latest opinion poll.

El Mundo among the papers to note the advance number of the IPC has fallen to 1.5%. The paper says it leaves the Spanish economy on the edge of deflation.
El País says the fall in prices is causing a cut back in wage increases too.
ABC says that unions are refusing to accept wage increases of less than 2% in the new round.

Público has an article today on the hottest sonnets from William Shakespeare.

And finally,
ABC has a front page photo of the Three Kings parade last night in Madrid. In Madrid alone 800,000 people turned out, and the paper says that The Kings filled the streets of Spain with magic.
