The number is just four fewer than last year's festive break.

104 people lost their lives on the roads of Spain over this year’s Christmas and New Year break. The number is just four fewer than last year for the same time.

There were 92 fatal accidents between 3pm on December 19 and midnight on January 7, according to the DGT traffic authority. In addition there were 49 serious and 55 slight injuries.

2,181 people died on the country’s roads last year, the lowest number since 1964.
