The animal was sacrificed and there is no danger to the food chain.
A cow has been sacrificed in Galapager, Madrid after being suspected of having Mad Cow disease, and indeed the dead beast tested positive at autopsy.
The Environment Council of the Madrid Regional Government said the ten year old animal was killed in a local abattoir and the case was confirmed on December 29. Protocol was followed at all times and the case will not affect the food chain because of that.
Since 2000 the Madrid region has seen six animals with Mad Cow, but this is the first case since 2004.
