Numbers of foreign residents increases in Alicantelarger |

There are now 121,000 Britons residents in the province.The number of foreigners living in Alicante city is now ten times higher than a decade ago.
In 1998 there were 4,867, and the new numbers for last year showed 49,000.
Most numerous are the Colombians, Ecuadorians and Argentineans.
However local sociologist, Antonio Balibrea, said that arrivals, generally looking for work, had reduced dramatically last year in the economic slowdown.
Total population of the city grew by 1.04% over 2008 to reach 333,408.
Across the province as a whole the number of registered British residents is now 121,813.
