Ten percent of the current population is foreign.

2009 is set to be a year for a baby boom in Spain with 1,369 births expected every day. This year’s baby boom is set to be bigger than the last one, seen in 1983.

The population here will be more than 49 million in ten years time, despite the fact that from 2010 there is expected to be another fall in the birth rate as the number of immigrant births are expected to fall by 50% over the next three years. Currently foreigners represent 10% of the total number of residents, 45.8 million on Jan 1 2009.

All these projections come from the National Statistics Institute.
