The arrests were made last November, but now we have the details of the case which broke when a lorry carrying 50 kilos of the drug was stopped in Oxford.
News has just been released that Police searched some 20 homes, blocked bank accounts, and recovered top of the range vehicles and luxury yachts in an operation against speed traffickers.
The gang of four British traffickers were arrested in Marbella and in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in an operation codenamed ‘sendero’. Spanish National Police worked in collaboration with the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency.
The case broke with 50 kilos of amphetamine sulphate, speed, which was intercepted in a lorry in Oxford in the U.K. having been sent there via Belgium.
Police say now they have broken up all the infrastructure and businesses used as cover by the gang, as well as recovering all their assets. These include a luxury villa with a double garage in Marbella, a home in Playa de las Americas in Tenerife, and a home built in Las Palmas. Other smaller properties and garages also in Tenerife, and Marbella as well as some land has also been embargoed. Luxury cars found include a Ferrari F430 Spyder, two Hummers , a Porsche Cayenne turbo, a Mercedes 63 AMG and an Audi Q7, as well as two yachts.
The head of the gang has been named as 42 year old Ronald O’Dea – he moved between Spain and Scotland. He is from Glasgow as is 39 year old James McDonald. Another one of the five arrested, Gerard Mooney from Dublin, is said to own more than 15 properties, despite still being under 30. He was arrested in October.
Two others have been named as Londoners, 42 year old Stephen Denis Brown and 63 year old Brian Rawlings.
They are all now in prison in Spain where they are expected to stay on remand for several months until their trial set for the National Court in Madrid.
