Animal protection organisations have protested against the event.
Despite protests from animal protection organisations, the ‘throwing of the turkey’ from the church tower has taken place again this year in the Jaén village of Cazalilla.
The bird is thrown as part of the fiestas in honour of San Blas from the tower of the Santa María de la Magdalena church in the locality.
The local Town Hall has recently distanced itself from the event but still done nothing to stop it.
Animal group ASANDA said that the fines imposed by the Junta de Andalucía for animal cruelty, 2001 € to the woman who released the bird last year, were not enough.
The Fiesta de la Pava is held every February 3 in the town, where thousands of people gather to witness the event.
