Madrid on snow alert again while heavy rain hits the south of Spain

The storms continue to pass over Spain, and record 26 metre waves have been recorded.

Madrid is on alert this morning as three cms of fresh snow is forecast for the city as this morning’s rush hour gets underway. The snow is expected to continue until noon.
Along the Mediterranean coast and in the strait heavy rain will continue.

The new storm of snow and high winds has put 15 regions of the country on alert, with just Cataluña, Valencia and the Balearic islands escaping this time round.
The Galician coast is on orange alert for strong winds which are also expected to blow at 70kms/hour in Murcia today, and the provinces of Granada and Almería could also see the wind, along with storms and heavy rain.

Málaga province is on yellow alert for rain which could see 15 litres per square meter falling in an hour in many areas, and 40 litres over a 12 hour period in continued stormy conditions. The drought decree has now been officially lifted across Málaga province.
Wind alerts are also in place in Huelva and Melilla as well as on the Canaries.

Meanwhile it has been revealed that the waves seen on January 24 were as much as 26 metres high, a record for Spain. The monster waves were recorded 22 miles to the north of Santander.
