Marbella Town Hall has asked for a total 268 years in prison for the 33 people who are accused in the Saqueo II case, which is about to be heard in the National Court.
The case investigates the allegation that close to 42 million € of Town Hall funds were diverted into private accounts, usually via companies linked to the architect Carlos Monteverde, which invoiced for projects which were never actually carried out. More than 90 different frauds are alleged to have been carried out against municipal companies, and the loss to the Spanish social security system has been estimated a more than a million €.
Ex Mayor Julián Muñoz faces a possible 13 and a half years in prison and a 20 year ban from public office, while Juan Antonio Roca, the Municipal Real Estate Assessor who is at the centre of the separate Malaya case, facing a possible ten years in prison and 15 out of public office. They and others are charged with the continued misuse of public funds, perversion of the course of justice, falsification of documents and defrauding Social Security.
Another ex Mayor, Marisol Yagüe is also accused, as is the right hand man of the late Mayor, Jesús Gil, Pedro Roman, and some 20 ex Gil party councillors and the lawyer José Luis Sierra.
