House sales in Spain fall by 29 percent in 2008

The fall in resale property numbers was 40 percent
The number of house sales in Spain in 2008 was down 28.6% over 2007 according to data just released. In 2008 558,429 deals were done according to the INE National Statistics Institute.
The fall was more pronounced in resale property which was down 40% year on year at 273,936. New house sales fell by the reduced 14% at 284,493.
In December 32,403 homes were sold, down 26% on the year.
The numbers also show that Murcia was the region where most houses were sold last year at 1,531 per 100,000 inhabitants with a total of 2,347 deals done over the year.
Other regions to see above average sales were Castilla-La Mancha, La Rioja, Cantabria, Andalucía, Valencia, Extremadura and the Canaries.
