Power companies overcharged consumers 80 million Eurolarger |
smallerBy h.b. - Mar 5, 2009 - 1:00 PMControversy continues over the new monthly billing proceedure
EFE
FACUA, Consumidores en Acción, has said that the amount of money overcharged irregularly by power companies across the country could be as much as 80 million €, which works out at an average of 3.49 € a household.
The extra money was paid by being charged 2009 prices for power actually used in 2008, as bills were estimated as monthly billing was introduced.
The consumers group has called on the authorities at the Ministry for Industry to ensure that the money is paid back to consumers, and in two regions, Andalucía and the Baleares, the autonomous governments have already given such an undertaking.
Bernat Soria, Minister for Health and Consumer Affairs, has meanwhile said that the Government is thinking of returning to the two monthly billing cycle given the problems and complaints arising with the new monthly system.
