The Valencia Fallas take on an Italian style and move to the beach
At 6pm, a "neapolitan-style" mascletà was scheduled at the Playa de las Arenas. Thousands of Valencians showed up at the beach during probably the most beautiful, warm day of the year so far, and I doubt that many left disappointed.
This was our first time to a mascleta napolitana, which are usually staged by Italian companies, and we were blown away. The location couldn’t have been better chosen — the huge open space of the beach with the harbor in the background provided the perfect setting. And the bright blue sky made the perfect backdrop for the explosions.
The show lasted nearly 20 minutes and included a lot of different elements, including colored smoke, insane whistling sounds, and even little figures which sailed down to earth after an explosion.
