The cayuco came landed on El Hierro at noon on Tuesday
Never before has an immigrant boat arrived in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife with so many children on board. The vessel, carrying 43 children, arrived at midday on Tuesday in the port of La Restinga on the island of El Hierro.
All the immigrants are of Sub-Saharan origin, and all were in good health according to the Red Cross. Their cayuco boat was spotted by the coastguard service when just half a mile offshore, and three minutes later the coastguard were at the scene.
Now the process to confirm age and identity gets underway.
