Four members of the same family have died from inhaling carbon monoxide at their home in Palencia, Castilla y León. One of them was a baby just 20 months old. A fifth family member, the child’s 20 year old step-brother, is seriously ill and was transferred by helicopter to hospital in Valdecilla, Cantabria.
The baby’s parents and grandmother also died at the scene of the tragedy at No. 42, Paseo Victorio Macho near the city’s railway station. El Mundo newspaper reports that the couple and their children were from Madrid and were in Palencia to visit the grandmother.
It happened shortly before 10.30 on Monday morning and it’s understood that it was another family member who made the call to emergency services.
Specialised equipment recorded high levels of gas in the building.
