The singer María Trinidad Pérez de Miravete Mille, who was known by her artistic name of Mari Trini, has died in a hospital in Murcia. Born in Caravaca de la Cruz, in Murcia, on July 12th 1947, Mari Trini died in the Morales Meseguer Hospital on Monday night at the age of 61. There has been no confirmation as yet of the cause of death.
With 25 records to her name, the singer-songwriter reached the height of her popularity in the 70s and 80s. One of her most successful albums was ‘Escúchame’, which included the hit single ‘Yo no soy esa’. Her last release was a greatest hits double album released at the end of 2005 and, since then, she’d been working on a book of poetry and on what was to have been a farewell concert.
Mari Trini was paid tribute in 2005 for her contribution to the arts in a ceremony organised by the General Society of Authors and Publishers. Just over a year ago she received the ‘Fight for Equality’ award from the Region of Murcia.
