Two women are now thought to be holding the power in the Basque terrorist group ETA following recent police successes and arrest of earlier leaders. It comes after three military leaders in ETA have been arrested over the past five months.

They are named as 37 year old Iratxe Sorzábal, who has had a warrant for her arrest since 2005, and 33 year old Izaskun Lesaka, who has already served three years in a French jail. They are believed to be among the four leaders of the gang, along with Iurgi Mendinueta and Andoni Sarasola.

Anti-terrorist sources in Spain consider that a power struggle will now take place until a single leader emerges.
