Enric Duran, the anti-system activist who was arrested for continued fraud this March, has been released on bail. Known as the ‘Robin of the Banks’, his arrest came after he publically claimed that he had defrauded almost 500,000 € from 39 different banks to show his opposition to the current system of international finance.
The courts in Barcelona agreed his release on payment of 50,000 € bail. His passport has also been withheld and he must report to the court once a week.
Duran obtained the 492,000 € defrauded through personal credits and a fictitious company, and used the funds to produce a magazine, named ‘Crisis’, in which he revealed the fraud and explained how he did it. He reappeared on 17th March to present his new pamphlet, ‘We can live without capitalism’, and was arrested by the Catalan police.
EFE reports that some 20 banks are affected, but only four of them plan to place their own charges against him.
