The idea is part of a fight against truancy
In a new fight against truancy, the public colleges in the Northern area of Alicante say they want to press ahead with a change school hours next academic year.
The ten centres want an intensive day to be introduced along with free activities for students between 4pm and 6pm. It means the schools will be open from 0745 to 6pm with classes obligatory between 9am and 2pm, the school dining rooms open 2pm to 4pm and then extra activities between 4pm and 6pm.
The Gloria Fuertes, Monte Benacantil, Santísima Faz, Virgen del Remedio, Isla Tabarca, Lucentum, Emilio Varela, Nuestra Señora de la Paz, El Tossalet and Casa Larga.
The schools have carried out a referendum among parents, and 93% of the 60% who took part backed the plan despite the fact that it has been initially rejected by the education authority.
