Miguel Sebastián will travel to Germany and Russia on ThursdayThe Spanish Minister for Industry, Miguel Sebastián, is to travel to Germany and Russia to defend the future of the Opel car plant in Figueruelas, saying he wants to obtain information first hand.
Sebastián gave the news during an appearance in the Senate on Tuesday saying he will be leaving on Thursday.
Russian bank Sberbank is helping to finance the purchase of Opel by the Canadian company Manga and both will become the main shareholders in the company.
Sebastián considers the Zaragoza factory to be the most competitive one that Opel has in Europe, claiming it has 30%-40% higher productivity than other centres, and he says he is certain it will stay operational and be a ‘plant of the future’.
