There were several examples of the lighter side of EU Election Day across Spain on Sunday
In Barcelona the local police had to go to the homes of several supervisors of a polling station who overslept.
In Huelva, one of the voting table’s spokesmen said he could not read or write, but his substitute did not want to replace him.
In Valladolid, a priest who should have supervised a voting table was excused when he said he had to take mass.
A drunk was arrested after hitting a civil guard inside a polling station in Balalcázar in Córdoba, but this was one of a very few such incidents.
A practically blind man asked for a policeman to help him to vote in Pamplona, claiming a helper had tried to change his vote.
In Badalona, Barcelona, a thief stole the bag from a postman on a moped, which was carrying a dozen or so postal votes, although it’s not thought the thief knew that.
The case came to light of a man in Navarra who gave a postal vote but who died before election day. The Junta Electoral decided that his vote could be counted.
The rapidly changing face of Spain was illustrated in Salamanca where a 74 year old pensioner took control of one of the new electronic voting systems. She said she was ‘excited to help’.
