An A320 Airbus with 180 Norwegian passengers on board has had to make an emergency landing and return to Gran Canaria ten minutes after take-off this morning, after fire was reported in an engine.
The plane had been chartered by the Ving company, and several passengers reported hearing ‘small explosions’ and seeing flames coming from one of the engines according to the Norwegian online newspaper VG. It was bound for Oslo.
The Spanish Airports Authority, AENA, has said that the standard emergency plan was put into action, and that firemen and medical personnel were on hand by the runway, but that the plane landed without problems.
The passengers left for Oslo on another craft chartered by the company.
